A man has been arrested for a deadly hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian crossing Montauk Highway in Copiague, Suffolk County police announced on Friday, Nov. 7.

Lloyd Berger, 64, of Copiague, was charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash involving a fatality. The charge stems from the crash that occurred on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 8:44 p.m.

Police say Berger was driving a gray sedan westbound when he struck Louis Lasusa, 69, of Massapequa Park, who was walking northbound across Montauk Highway in front of 1051 Montauk Highway. Berger allegedly fled westbound without stopping.

Lasusa was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Berger was being held at the Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned on Saturday, Nov. 8 at First District Court in Central Islip.
