UNION COUNTY, Ky. (WEHT) - A tornado can happen at any time, and in 2005, residents in the Tri-State woke up to destruction in their community. While some had weather radios, others were unaware of the danger at the time.

Nick Howard and his friend left work early due to severe weather coming in that night. However, they were not aware of the severity of the storms until Howard received a phone call from his grandmother telling him that a tornado was near.

"If it hadn't been for that, I'd have never looked out and seen the tornado," Howard said. "We'd have just thought it was a lot of wind."

Howard's grandmother's neighbor had a weather radio, which gave her time to warn her grandson. Howard said that phone call changed everything about the drive from Evansville to Henderson.
