KENNER, La. —
The annual Buddy Walk is happening this weekend to raise awareness and funds for the Down Syndrome Association of Greater New Orleans.
The group advocates for people with Down syndrome in Southeast Louisiana in an effort to break down the stigma often associated with the diagnosis. Advertisement
"Individuals with Down syndrome are not limited," said Kirby LaCour, the father of a young woman with Down syndrome. "We’ve got college graduates out there. We have individuals going to college now. ... There’s individuals with Down syndrome who have created their own businesses and companies."
Kirby LaCour's daughter, Hannah LaCour, is an ambassador for the walk.
"It’s not what we can’t do, it’s what we can do given the opportunity," said Hannah LaCour.
