Arizona Rep.-Elect Adelita Grijalva has now waited longer to be sworn in than any other member of congress in this century. It has been 44 days since her resounding, unquestioned 40-point victory in Arizona's 7th District in a special election on September 23rd to replace her father, the late Raúl Grijalva.

The previous record was set by Democratic Rep. Jimmy Gomez of California, who waited 35 days to be sworn in as part of a self-imposed delay due to a "family conflict" during a summer recess in 2017. Republican Jean Schmidt of Ohio also waited 35 days in 2005 due to an August recess after her special election.
