A Fort Erie resident is now Canada’s oldest living person.

At 110, Burd Sisler became the oldest Canadian resident following the Oct. 25 death of Margaret Romans, who was 113 and resided in Sainte-Geneviève, Que.

Sisler, a Second World War veteran, was recognized in the Ontario legislature Wednesday by his friend and Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates.

“Burdett — or Burd, as we call him — is a truly incredible and special person,” said Gates.

“He is the oldest living Canadian veteran of the war and is believed to be the sixth oldest living veteran in the world.”

Sisler spent 30 years working for Canada Border Services Agency and raised his family in Fort Erie. He now lives at the Garrison Place retirement residence and has five children, 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 14 grea
