HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - On this date in 1924, St. Mary’s Hospital opened in Huntington.

Eight Pallottine Missionary sisters started it.

The founding sisters left their home in Germany to come to America, barely missing sailing on the Titanic.

They opened a hospital in Buckhannon in 1921 before coming to Huntington and opening St. Mary’s three years later.

They kept that relationship with the hospital until 2014 when it merged with Cabell Huntington Hospital.
