CLEVELAND — Travelers flying out of Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) or Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) may face delays or cancellations this weekend as the Federal Aviation Administration plans to cut up to 10 percent of flights at 40 major U.S. airports.

While CLE and CAK are not directly on the FAA’s list, connecting flights through hubs such as Chicago (ORD/MDW), Atlanta (ATL) or New York (JFK/LGA/EWR) could be impacted for local passengers.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said the reductions are necessary to address fatigue among air traffic controllers who have worked without pay since the federal government shutdown began Oct. 1. The cuts are expected to affect roughly 3,500 to 4,000 flights daily.
