On the surface, NC State's 114-66 win over NC Central to tip off a new season seems like business as usual. A Power Four team blowing out a small mid-major isn't something out of the ordinary when a new season of basketball begins.
But let's look a little closer. Over the last 15 seasons the Eagles, headed by Levelle Moton, has experienced more success ans stability on their level than NC State has on their level. Moton was able to coach his Eagles to an 82-72 overtime win over NC State in 2013.
No one expected the Eagles to repeat history this season, but a 48-point loss could be indicative of something bigger happening.
Moton described it post game as, "A twelve-million dollar basketball team versus a zero-dollar basketball team."
