A 38-year-old man in Florida will spend the rest of his days behind bars for killing the mother of his children, fatally stabbing her in their bedroom because he got "mad" when she tried to break up with him, then "calmly" driving the kids to school .

Seminole County Circuit Judge Melanie Chase on Wednesday ordered Farel Torres to serve life without parole in a state correctional facility, authorities announced .

Last month, a 12-person jury deliberated for only 14 minutes before finding Torres guilty on one count of second-degree murder in the slaying of 34-year-old Vanessa Santiago.

The fatal attack took place on May 29, 2024, inside the couple's apartment on Winter Woods Boulevard off of State Road 436, according to a news release from the 18th Judicial Circuit State's Attorney's Off
