Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus turned red again as the Left won all major positions in the student union elections held on November 4.
Aditi Mishra became the new JNU Students’ Union President, defeating ABVP ’s Vikas Patel by 414 votes (1,861 to 1,447). K. Gopika won the vice president’s post with a huge margin of 1,236 votes, getting 2,966 votes against Tanya Kumari of ABVP, who got 1,730.
Sunil Yadav from the Left won by just 74 votes, securing 1,915 against ABVP’s Rajeshwar Kant Dubey’s 1,841. Danish Ali completed the Left’s clean sweep by winning the Joint Secretary post with 1,991 votes, defeating ABVP’s Anuj Damara, who got 1,762.
This year’s election saw a 67% voter turnout, which is slightly lower than the 70% turnout in the previous election.
