Two persons, a man and a woman, died Thursday while three others sustained injuries after being hit by an oncoming train near Sandhurst Road railway station while crossing railway tracks.
The five were crossing the tracks as no local trains had been running for nearly an hour due to a flash strike called by railway employees. They were rushed to JJ Hospital where two of them were declared dead.
One of the deceased has been identified as Helly Mohmaya (19), while the two injured are Kaif Chogale (22) and Khushbu (45).
A Railway Protection Force official said that the incident took place around 7.15 pm when the five were standing on the Sandhurst Road railway station (central line platform) waiting for a train on Thursday evening.
