MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. — Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden is seeking reelection in 2026, touting his record on criminal justice reform and community engagement since first taking office in 2018.
McFadden's campaign highlights several key policy changes implemented during his tenure, including the discontinuation of the 287(g) immigration enforcement program on Dec. 6, 2018, and the ending of solitary confinement for juvenile offenders on Dec. 31, 2018.
In early 2019, the sheriff reestablished face-to-face and in-person visitation at the detention center.
