MISSISSIPPI, USA — The last monkey that escaped from a last week has been captured, according to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.

The rhesus macaque was tranquilized and returned to the transport company after it was spotted Wednesday afternoon,

“The monkey was recovered alive near the crash site," a spokesperson for the department told WWL.

The capture ends a weeklong search that made national headlines. The incident began on Oct. 28 when a truck carrying 21 rhesus macaques from Tulane University's National Biomedical Research Center flipped on I-59. Eight monkeys were ejected, five were killed, and three fled the scene.
