CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb announced a 30-day moratorium on utility disconnects amid the longest federal shutdown in American history.

The government has been shut down since Oct. 1, leaving nearly 1.5 million civilian federal workers furloughed or forced to work without pay.

About 1.4 million Ohioans have also been without their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits since funding ran out on Nov. 1.

Bibb partnered with the Department of Public Utilities to ensure Cleveland Water and Cleveland Public Power customers will not face service interruptions due to unpaid bills effective Friday, Nov. 7.
