JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) - A pedestrian died after being hit by a truck on Highway 13 in rural Murphysboro, Illinois on Tuesday night.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the scene on Highway 13, near West Industrial Park Road, around 7:03 p.m. on Tuesday, November 4.

Deputies say a black 2019 Toyota Tundra driven by an 80-year-old Murphysboro man, was going southbound on Highway 13, approaching the Union Pacific Railroad underpass.

At the same time, a pedestrian, later identified as 50-year-old Jennifer Perez of Murphysboro, was walking north in the southbound lane of Highway 13.

According to the sheriff’s office, as the truck approached the underpass, the driver tried to avoid hitting the pedestrian but was unable to.
