JANESVILLE, Wis. (WREX) — A Rock County man will spend the next 16 years in prison following a conviction of homicide charges in a 2024 crash.
The Rock County District Attorney's Office announced Thursday that 33-year-old Koty Diaz was convicted on two counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle in a Rock County court earlier this week.
The charges stem from Aug. 17, 2024, when Diaz, after leaving a local tavern, drove at high speed, through grass and over a curb, and ran a red light on Beloit Ave., crashing into a Pontiac G6 on Delavan Dr. The crash resulted in the deaths of the driver and his fiancée. Diaz had a blood alcohol concentration of .102 at the time.
He was sentenced by Judge Barbara McCrory to 16 years in prison, followed by 10 years of extended supervision.
