The NYPD officer who shot and paralyzed a New Jersey man in a road-rage incident while drunkenly driving home from a wedding in May 2024 pleaded guilty Wednesday to an attempted murder charge, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed Thursday.

Hieu Tran, a three-year veteran assigned to the NYPD’s press office, pulled alongside Kishan Patel, 30, on a Camden County roadway about 90 miles south of New York City around 11:15 p.m. on May 17, 2024, and fired several shots into Patel’s car, striking the young businessman in the back of his head. Tran then screeched into the intersection and struck a second car, seriously injuring a nurse heading home from work.
