When Hockey Canada announced its rosters for the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge — currently being played in Truro, N.S. — Laus’ name wasn’t on it. No explanation. Just silence. Article content Article content
For the Soo Greyhounds’ 16-year-old forward, a first-round, seventh-overall pick in the 2025 OHL Priority Selection, the omission stung.
He’d gone through Canada’s summer development camp in Oakville, one of 79 hopefuls across the CHL, and looked forward to the chance to wear the Maple Leaf. Instead, he was on the outside looking in when the list was narrowed to 44 players split between Canada Red and Canada White.
Seventeen players from the OHL made those rosters. Eleven were drafted after Laus. Six were forwards.
