CEDAR CREST, N.M. —

Bernalillo County sheriff's deputies are investigating a domestic violence incident that led to a suspect shooting and killing himself.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies were told by school staff that a woman and her child had fled to safety after they escaped a domestic violence situation.

Following the report, detectives with the sheriff's office began investigating and issued a warrant for the suspect, who is an officer with the Albuquerque Police Department.

The sheriff's office said deputies with the special operations division went to the suspect's house on Piñon Trail in Cedar Crest to serve the warrant.
