Jordan Binnington didn’t just give up Alex Ovechkin’s 900th goal — for a moment, he nearly took home the souvenir, too.

The St. Louis Blues goaltender briefly found himself at the centre of a viral moment Thursday night when he pocketed the milestone puck after Ovechkin’s highlight-reel tally, only to return it when approached by the referee.

However, while some thought Binnington was trying to keep the puck for himself, he says there was no intent on his part to keep it from getting to Ovechkin.
