Yankees legend Don Mattingly has decided to step away from his position as bench coach for the Toronto Blue Jays, according to The New York Post .
Mattingly had completed his contract with the Blue Jays after three seasons, during which he served as manager John Schneider’s mentor. A source told The Post that Mattingly felt his mission was accomplished after Toronto won the AL East and reached Game 7 of the World Series.
The former Yankees star reportedly remains energized despite Toronto’s heartbreaking World Series loss and would consider the right opportunity elsewhere, including a return to managing.
The Colorado Rockies are the only team with a managerial vacancy.
