MONETTA, S.C. — Authorities are still working to identify a person found dead as firefighters were searching a burning home on Thursday morning.
Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said his office was called to the 600 block of Sawyer Road near Castle Rock Road in the Monetta area around 10 a.m. He said that first responders from the Monetta Fire Department were called to the area and found a male victim inside after extinguishing the fire.
Ables said thermal injuries have hindered the immediate identification of the victim. He said an autopsy scheduled for the following week in Newberry will help determine the victim's cause and manner of death as well as the person's identification.
