Saturday’s matchup with Vanderbilt will be Auburn’s first game since Hugh Freeze’s firing and with interim head coach DJ Durkin leading the way.

Durkin announced earlier in the week that he will maintain his duties as defensive coordinator, which includes calling the defense during games.

When meeting with reporters after Thursday’s practice he went into more detail about how he will operate on gamedays.

"The plan is right when the defensive series is over," Durkin said, “I’ll get through my work on the iPad quickly and get the adjustments to the staff to go make.”

When he was just the defensive coordinator, Durkin didn’t even watch when the offense was on the field, instead going over adjustments with the defense. That will change now that he’s the head coach.
