GILMER, Texas (KLTV) - The former Upshur County District Attorney Billy Byrd, who announced his retirement in October , confirmed he will seek office of district judge for the 115th District Court.

Byrd stated that he wants to be a judge community members are glad to have.

“I will not be outworked,” Byrd said. “I want to be a judge you can all be proud of.”

During the next year, Byrd said he will be in private practice, studying and preparing so that he is elected on day one.

“We can get to business,” Bryd said.

The current district judge for the 115th District Court, Dean Fowler, said he will be finishing out his term and then retiring.
