WHEELING, Ill. - National Louis University’s Wheeling campus was placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon following reports of a large police presence in the surrounding area.

According to the Wheeling Police and Fire Department, officers responded to an incident near Capitol Drive and urged the public to stay clear of the area.

"There is a large police presence in the area of Capitol Drive in Wheeling. Please stay clear of the area. Further updates will be forthcoming when available," the department said in a statement on X.

University officials confirmed that the incident was unrelated to the campus but said they followed guidance from local law enforcement to ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff.
