The Boston Red Sox agreed to terms on their first new contract of the offseason Thursday — though the man they agreed with is quite familiar.
Cooper Criswell re-signed with the club on a one-year, $800,000 deal for 2026, according to FanSided’s Robert Murray.
Criswell, 29, does not have any options left, which leaves him with a decent chance to make the club next season due to the contract being fully-guaranteed. Boston could have non-tendered the veteran right-hander, but bring him back as a valuable depth arm in both the bullpen and starting rotation.
It’ll remain to be seen whether the club tries to pass him through waivers this offseason, because if they don’t he’ll either need to break camp with the club or be designated for assignment.
