WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - The lines of people seeking food are growing longer at the Watertown Salvation Army as the government shutdown continues to impact food aid.
The line of people extended all the way from the entrance at the back of the building to State Street.
Waiting in temperatures of 30 to 40 degrees, they waited outside with bags and wagons to fill.
People In Need Speak Out
Thursdays are the day when free food, donated by area stores, is handed out to those in need.
“I haven’t been receiving SNAP benefits, which a lot of us do rely on to be able to cook at home or have a comfortable meal, or just have a meal at all,” said Aegis Izquierdo of Watertown.
Many of the people waiting in line said they haven’t gotten this month’s benefits for the Supplemental Nutrition Assis
