Local author Karen Wand was on hand in Rockport on Nov. 1 to sign copies of her new book, Canadian Boat Builders of the Thousand Islands and Rideau Waterways.

It tells the story of boat building, boats, and their builders in the local area, and Wand hopes that it will interest those with a love for local history.

“My family has always been interested in genealogy, and when I discovered that my husband, Rick (Wand), didn’t know anything about his roots, I decided to investigate,” Wand said. “I uncovered his connection to his great-uncle Jack Malette.
