BECKLEY, W.Va. — Thursday afternoon’s West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission State Soccer Class AAAA boys semifinal match between Wheeling Park High School and Hurricane High School is best described as a tale of two halves.
Wheeling Park owned the opening half, going into the break with a 1-0 lead and momentum.
Hurricane dominated the second half against an undermanned Park squad, scoring four unanswered goals.
At the end of 80 minutes, Hurricane came out on top, 4-1, to advance to Saturday’s championship game against Woodrow Wilson High School. Woodrow defeated Morgantown High School earlier in the day, also by a 4-1 score.
The game was physical from the opening whistle, with both teams quickly moving the ball. Park’s opening half saw the Patriots take 10 corner kicks,
