A longtime Manchester history teacher under investigation for “allegations of inappropriate behavior” involving comments about the shooting death of influential conservative activist Charlie Kirk has notified the district of his intent to retire.

Memorial High School history teacher Jason Paige has been on leave, per standard district procedure, while the investigation, which began Sept. 12, was carried out.

“The Manchester teacher who allegedly made controversial comments in the classroom has notified the school district of his intent to retire,” the Manchester School District said in a statement issued late Thursday afternoon. “The reason given for the retirement was for the teacher to pursue other opportunities.
