GRADY COUNTY, Ga. (WCTV) - Grady County residents are remembering a pillar of their community after he passed away early Thursday morning.

Joe Ward was well known in the county, dedicating his high energy, brilliance and life to sports.

Joe showed his passion for basketball and football through coaching and as a stats keeper for nearly four decades.

Michael Best, a longtime friend and coworker, said this loss is tough to grasp, but they want everyone to remember Joe as a legend in Cairo.

“He was a true Syrupmaker,” Best said. “That was his whole life. I think he’s a great example of how you support your community. He never ever turned his back on his high school and his community, and even as bad as he felt health-wise, days that he really couldn’t even go, he found a way to go.”
