WASHINGTON, D.C. (WROC) — Applause greeted Kathleen Ryan and Nancy Smith as they took their place before the 53 other veterans of Honor Flight Rochester’s Mission 92.

A member of the memorial presented the two with their stories, printed and read aloud.

Nancy Smith, a Marine, served two years during the Vietnam War.

“On behalf of Honor Flight Rochester and the Military Women’s Memorial, here is your story,” the memorial representative said to Smith as she handed her a portfolio.

Kathleen Ryan shared her story with News 8 after the ceremony.

“I debriefed Soviet refugees,” she said.

A tactical field interrogator in Germany, Ryan was someone not to be trifled with.

“So did you speak Russian then?” Adam Chodak asked.

“Yeah, all day, every day,” Ryan replied. “It was a defensive course
