The man charged with spying on Hydro-Québec for China while he worked for the utility for six years said Thursday his French was so bad he couldn’t understand what was said during company meetings.
Yuesheng Wang, 38, made the comment while being cross-examined by prosecutor Sabrina Delli Fraine at the Longueuil courthouse where he is charged with economic espionage.
Wang is charged with obtaining a trade secret for the benefit of China to the detriment of Canada’s economic interests, fraudulently obtaining a computer service, knowingly obtaining a trade secret and breach of trust.
Wang is alleged to have shared confidential research from Hydro-Québec concerning battery technologies with Chinese entities.
