KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Local leaders gathered at Norris Dam State Park on Thursday to receive ceremonial checks, but the grant money these checks represent will have a real impact on East Tennessee communities.
The grants were distributed by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.
Clifford presented checks to nine localities, with the city of LaFollette receiving $2.7 million.
“Well, that's game changing for a city like that. For them to make investments in their parks is great. The community benefits from it,” said Office of Outdoor Recreation Director Brian Cliffords, “It's quality of life improvements. People just enjoy parks, especially when you're a growing community like that. Having green space, having parks in places to go just makes a community thrive.”
