BIG COUNTRY, TEXAS (KTAB/KRBC) -Another week brings a new drought update. This week's changes were anticipated, as it's been a few weeks since we've had any measurable rain. The combination of dry air and above-average temperatures has led to rapidly drying conditions throughout the Big Country.

This week, we have experienced the potential for record-breaking heat, and not just once, but three times. One day reached a record high of 91 degrees, surpassing the previous record of 90 degrees. Today, the record stands at 88 degrees, but with forecasted highs just below that, it’s unlikely we’ll set a second record. Nevertheless, these above-normal temperatures significantly worsen drought conditions by intensifying fire weather, especially in areas already experiencing dry conditions.
