KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas is issuing a stark warning as the federal government shutdown begins to take a serious toll on the nation's air travel system.

"I'm incredibly worried," the mayor told FOX4. "I think this has the opportunity to be a disaster for air travel not just in America but here in Kansas City."

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced it will cut 10% of flights from 40 of America's largest and busiest airports starting Friday.

Although Kansas City International Airport (KCI) isn't on that list, city leaders said the ripple effects could still be crippling.
