A convicted felon already jailed for a French Quarter stabbing now faces a second-degree murder count after DNA from a discarded ski mask tied him to the fatal carjacking of an Uber driver, according to police.

Brandon Joseph , 21, was rebooked at Orleans Justice Center, and Magistrate Commissioner Juana Lombard on Wednesday ordered him held without bond.

Joseph was jailed Oct. 15 on suspicion of aggravated second-degree battery. He allegedly stabbed a tap-dancing street performer who had beefed with Joseph's brother, a Bourbon Street bucket drummer, on Aug. 16 near Bourbon and Bienville streets.

The tap dancer "got into a verbal altercation with one of the 'bucket kids' over an unknown issue," according to a police affidavit supporting an arrest warrant for Joseph.
