Kroger has recalled peach salsa products in several states for possible listeria.

Salsa sold at Kroger is being recalled for possible listeria contamination as part of a larger recall of peaches.

JFE Franchising and Supreme LLC, which produces peach salsas sold at Kroger stores, issued recalls on Oct. 30 and Nov. 3 after they were notified of possible listeria exposure by fruit supplier Moonlight Companies.

Moonlight Companies initiated its own recall on Oct. 29 for California-grown conventional yellow and white peaches that may be contaminated by listeria. The peaches were used to make the salsas produced by both manufacturers and supplied to Kroger locations.

As of Nov. 3, there have been no illnesses or consumer complaints, according to the recall notice by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Fruits, leafy greens and other produce can become adulterated with listeria through fecal contamination, which can occur through wastewater, water in the growing area, fertilizer and the proximity of said growing area to livestock, USA TODAY previously reported. Its presence in soil or water can contaminate produce as it grows, and exposure during harvesting, processing and preparation can also introduce the bacteria, both to the inside and outside of fruits and vegetables.

Here's what to know about the recall.
