Rice University on Thursday unveiled its "Gateway Project" — a $120 million initiative to create a pedestrian-oriented street connected to campus along with renovations to Rice Stadium.

According to the private university, the funding for the project comes from Rice's 30-year Campus Land Use Plan meant to align the university's infrastructure with other aspects of the surrounding community and Houston.

Rice Board of Trustees Chairman Robert T. Ladd said in a statement that the project is meant to leave a lasting impact.
