SERGEANT BLUFF, Iowa (KTIV) - For the seventh time since 2015, voters in the Sergeant Bluff-Luton school district rejected a proposed bond to pay for improvements to schools in the district on Tuesday.
Had it passed, the $37 million public measure on Tuesday’s ballot would have paid to build the district’s primary school, which was built back in 1959.
It failed by 0.3% percent. It got 59.6%, but it needed 60% to pass.
Superintendent Chad Janzen said it was “crushing” to see the final results. He said that for the last 20 years, the district has tried to pass measures to help the district grow and improve.
Until 2024, the highest percentage of “yes” votes for a public measure was 47%.
