LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Plans for a new veterans service center and museum, which have been under discussion for nearly a year, are beginning to take more concrete shape.

Project organizers have revealed that the donated building intended for the center is in poor condition, suffering from a leaky roof and decaying walls. Due to these significant structural issues, the project is now anticipated to take approximately one year to complete and is estimated to cost $5.5 million. This figure represents an increase of $1 million from initial estimates made in May.

Funding for the initiative includes $4.5 million from Webb County and an additional $1 million from the City of Laredo.
