BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - An LSU student serving in the National Guard received a new car through a program that provides vehicles to service members.

Specialist Dion Wise, a digital advertising major from Georgia, struggled to balance school expenses and family financial obligations while attending Louisiana State University.

“The struggles I went through of having to save for a car but also having to also give money back to my family, to school, it was definitely a lot,” Wise said.

Wise moved to Louisiana a few years ago to start school. She had scholarships for her first year, but funding was waining.

“I had scholarships for the first year and then my scholarships were running out,” she said.

Military service begins

Wise joined the National Guard after seeing a recruiter’s email.
