SEARSPORT -- As of Wednesday, the Federal government shutdown has become the longest in history as the standoff continues in Washington over health insurance subsidies.

Governor Janet Mills discussed the shutdown with reporters during a visit to Waldo county on Thursday.

She is calling on both parties to end the dysfunction and says Congress should forfeit their paychecks while the shutdown continues.

"The dysfunction in Washington is so extreme, they can't seem to get two things done in one month, extend the tax credits and pass the continuing resolution," said Gov. Mills. "Let America go to work again, and honestly if they can't get this done, they themselves should go without pay, the administration in Washington, members of Congress, if they're not working, don't get paid."
