WAITSFIELD, Vt. (WCAX) - An Olympic athlete from Vermont has joined the push to make sure women looking to start families later in life know their options.
National vital statistics show that fewer women are having kids in their 20s, and more women in their 30s are.
In 1990, women younger than 30 accounted for about seven in 10 births.
In 2023, they were less than half.
And particularly of note-- first births among women 35 and older went up 25% between 2016 and 2023. The reasons vary, from prioritizing education and careers to waiting for greater financial stability and evolving gender roles.
