PRAIRIE VILLAGE, Kan. — One team from Johnson County put its best foot forward this season.

The cross country girls at Kansas City Christian School (KCCS) claimed their first state championship this past weekend, staking their claim as one of the best groups of runners in the Sunflower State.

KCCS' first Class 2-A state cross country team won the title last weekend in Wamego, Kansas. The Panthers entered the state meet with victories in three regular season events, ranking them number one in the unofficial coaches' poll.

This driven team delivered, placing two of its runners in the top 20 at state.

"It was truly a team effort this year," said Jonathan Ford, KC Christian's fifth-year girls cross country coach.
