Plans to turn part of a former bank in Eston into a hot food takeaway have been rejected. Omar Abdullah, of Lé Basil Pizza, submitted the proposal for the vacant former Barclays property in Eston High Street. The building was previously used as an arts facility until that use ended last year.

A statement by architects Wardman Brown, on behalf of the applicant, which was submitted to the local planning authority said Mr Abdullah currently leased premises further down the High Street, off Eston Square, for a takeaway he operated. But he was having to move as part of Redcar and Cleveland Council plans to redevelop the area .

The statement highlighted how there were ten takeaways already operating in Eston town centre. The proposed takeaway would employ two full-time and two part-time
