GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WITN) - It’s the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, and plenty of North Carolinians are still not getting paid.

“It’s really a shame that this has been going on for so long. Congress and the House need to pull it together to get the country back open again,” Goldsboro resident Russell Robbins says.

That’s the thought of many in eastern Carolina, as thousands of government employees remain without a paycheck and the shutdown continues to impact families regardless of where they stand on politics.

“We’re fighting for everyone because these issues don’t know party lines,” Congressman Don Davis says.

Davis was in Goldsboro on Thursday as the shutdown reached its 37th day. He spoke about the toll it’s taking on District 1 constituents, with many needing healthcare
