BYRON, Ga. — Nearly nine years after two Peach County deputies made the ultimate sacrifice, their names now grace interstate bridges as a permanent tribute to their service.
Starting Thursday night, drivers along Interstate 75 in Peach County will pass over the Deputy Daryl Smallwood Memorial Bridge and the Sergeant Patrick Sondron Memorial Bridge, marking a long-awaited recognition of the officers who died in the line of duty.
The dedication ceremony drew law enforcement officers from across the region, who stood alongside community members to honor the fallen deputies. For the families, the moment represented the culmination of years of effort to ensure their loved ones would not be forgotten.
