A 19-year-old man will spend decades in prison for the fatal shooting of a person prosecutors described as his mentor.
Raymond Terry III has been sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty earlier this year to first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence in connection with the death of Vincent Fisher inside an SUV earlier this year.
Prince George’s County Police arrested Raymond Terry III following the Sunday, Feb. 16, shooting that claimed the life of the 26-year-old Landover resident.
Officers responded around 6:50 p.m. to the 2000 block of East Marlboro Avenue after receiving a call about a shooting, a spokesperson for the department said.
When they arrived, they found Fisher inside the SUV with a gunshot wound, where he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Investigators believe Terry and Fisher were inside the vehicle together when the shooting happened.
Shortly after the shooting, Terry walked into the Landover Division III police station and turned himself in, officials said. A second person was also in the vehicle at the time, but was uninjured.
“This case is especially heartbreaking because the victim saw potential in the defendant and tried to guide him toward a better path,” State’s Attorney Tara Jackson said. “Instead, that trust and mentorship were met with unimaginable violence."
"Today’s sentence reflects the gravity of this betrayal and the devastating loss suffered by Mr. Fisher’s family and our community."
