Coming into the week, the Coronado Islanders football program had already nailed down a spot in the 2025 CIF playoffs. The only actual questions left were where they would be seated and who they would be playing against.
On Friday night, both of those questions would have clarity. As a thanks for a late fourth-quarter touchdown catch from Reese Pagon , the Islanders drafted Central League Foe Kearny High School 24-20. Securing a 6-3 regular season and earning them the No.7 seed in the CIF DIV playoffs.
“It was a hard-fought battle,” said Islanders Coach Kurt Hines . “Just really proud of the guys for fighting for all four quarters. It came down to that final drive, and it was a bit of a gut check to test who we really were as a team.”
